ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ghoul Guy is an Australian designer and artist based in Tokyo, Japan.
He is currently engaged in a ten-year project, Ghoul, an ongoing body of work that explores the theme of monsters through one thousand individual artworks.
As of 2026, he has produced ten distinct collections, each comprising fifty artworks. These collections have been exhibited in Sydney, Melbourne, and Tokyo.
Monsters are often symbols of fear and power, yet they can also be playful, melancholic, and absurd. Ghoul Guy chose this theme as an expansive source of inspiration—one capable of sustaining exploration over a decade.
The term ‘ghoul’ originates in Arabic folklore and was later popularised through The Arabian Nights, where such creatures were said to lurk in the desert, waiting to seize lonely travellers.
Ghoul Guy‘s practice draws deeply from folklore, fables, and myth, and the connection to The Arabian Nights—one of civilisation’s most enduring storytelling traditions—reflects the timeless narrative impulse that continues to shape his work.
